Self-Diagnostic System: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Mustang. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Tests included in this article are written specifically for Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or New Generation Star (NGS) tester functionality. Other OBD II-compatible scan tools may be used, but may not be equipped with equal test function capabilities. Refer to scan tool manufacturer's instructions.
NOTE: Before checking for any communication concern, inspect Data Link Connector (DLC) for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. See Figure. DLC is located under instrument panel between steering column and the radio. See Figure. Pay particular attention to terminals No. 2 (Tan/Orange wire), No. 7 (Light Blue/White wire) and No. 10 (Pink/Light Blue wire).
