System Tests: Notes

CAUTION: Be careful when probing the Central Junction Box (CJB), Battery Junction Box (BJB) or any connectors. Damage will result to connector receptacle if probe or terminal being used is too large.

CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.

NOTE: If DTCs are recorded and symptom is not present when carrying out pinpoint tests, an intermittent concern may be the cause. Always check for loose connections and corroded connector pins.

NOTE: Tests included in this article are written specifically for Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester, New Generation Star (NGS) tester functionality. Other OBD II-compatible scan tools may be used, but may not be equipped with equal test function capabilities. Refer to scan tool manufacturer's instructions.

NOTE: Before performing any system tests, inspect Data Link Connector (DLC) for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. See Figure. Pay particular attention to terminals No. 2 (Tan/Orange wire), No. 7 (Light Blue/White wire) and No. 10 (Pink/Light Blue wire). DLC is located under instrument panel between steering column and the radio. See Figure. Always check control module power and ground circuits prior to replacing a control module.
