Fuel Pressure

WARNING: ALWAYS relieve fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel injection-related component. DO NOT allow fuel to contact engine or electrical components. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE  .

  1. 1) Fuel System Inspection
    Perform the following:
    • Visually inspect complete fuel delivery system. Including fuel lines, connections, pump, pressure regulator and injector areas for leaks, looseness, cracks, kinks, pinching, or abrasion caused by an accident, collision, mishandling and others.
    • Visually inspect all electrical harnesses and connectors.
    • Verify vehicle operator has followed maintenance schedule.
    • Verify Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch is set.
    • Verify vehicle battery is fully charged.
    • Verify electrical/relay integrity.
    • Verify sufficient fuel in fuel tank.
  2. 2) Check Fuel Pressure

Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE  . Install fuel pressure gauge in fuel line between fuel filter and fuel rail. Turn ignition on. Check fuel pressure. Start engine and allow to idle. Check fuel pressure. Fuel pressure should about 43 psi (294 kPa) with ignition on, and about 34 psi (235 kPa) after starting engine and allowing it to idle. If fuel pressure is as specified, system is capable of maintaining fuel pressure. If fuel pressure is zero, turn ignition off and go to TEST HC, step 3)  under SYSTEM TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - VILLAGER article. If fuel pressure is low, turn ignition off and go to TEST HC, step 20)  under SYSTEM TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - VILLAGER article. If fuel pressure is high, turn ignition off and go to TEST HC, step 30)  under SYSTEM TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - VILLAGER article.
