Test DS: Crankshaft Position Sensor: Testing
- 1) DTC P0335 Or P1336: Check SIG RTN Circuit For Short To Power
DTC P0335 indicates DTC P1336 indicates a chipping of the flywheel gear tooth is detected by PCM. Possible causes are as follows:- CKP sensor circuit open or shorted to GND or VPWR.
- SIG RTN circuit shorted to VPWR.
- Faulty CKP sensor.
- Damaged CKP sensor or flywheel.
Turn ignition off. Disconnect CKP sensor harness connector (located near flywheel). Disconnect PCM harness connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between SIG RTN and VPWR circuits at PCM harness connector. See PCM TERMINAL CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION table. See Figure and Figure . If all resistances are more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If any resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short between circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- 2) Check CKP(+) Circuit For Continuity
Using DVOM, measure resistance of CKP circuit (Light Green wire) between CKP sensor harness connector and PCM harness connector. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Light Green wire. - 3) Check CKP Circuit For Short To Ground
Using DVOM, measure resistance between negative battery terminal and CKP circuit at PCM harness connector. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Light Green wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. - 4) Check CKP SIG RTN Circuit For Short To VPWR
Using DVOM, measure resistance between CKP and VPWR circuits at PCM harness connector. See PCM TERMINAL CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION table. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to VPWR in circuit. - 5) Inspect CKP Sensor Harness Shield
Inspect CKP sensor harness shield for damage. Repair as necessary. Using DVOM, measure resistance between harness shield and negative battery terminal. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in wiring harness shield. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. - 6) Inspect Flywheel & CKP Sensor For Damage
Inspect flywheel for chipped teeth and inspect CKP sensor for damage. Repair flywheel or CKP sensor as necessary. If flywheel and sensor are okay, go to next step. - 7) Check CKP Sensor
Disconnect CKP sensor connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between CKP sensor connector terminals. If resistance is 512-632 ohms at 68°F (20°C), replace PCM. If resistance is not 106.5-203.5 ohms at 68°F (20°C), replace CKP sensor.
