Forward and Coasting Clutch: Assembly

    NOTE: Install the outer seal with the lip facing up.

  1. Install the coasting clutch piston seals.
  2. NOTE: Install the outer seal with the lip facing up.

  3. Install the forward clutch piston seals.
  4. Install the forward and coasting clutch pistons.
    1. Coat the inside of the coasting clutch drum with clean transmission fluid.
    2. Install the forward clutch piston.
    3. Install the coasting clutch piston.

  5. Install the coasting clutch spring retainer assembly.
    1. Position the spring retainer.
    2. Align the mark on the spring retainer with the coasting clutch check ball.

  6. NOTE: Do not align the snap ring gap with the spring retainer stop. Position the snap ring so the gap is between the stops.
  7. Install the coasting clutch return spring snap ring.
    1. Using the special tool, compress the coasting clutch return springs.
    2. Install the snap ring.

  8. Install the coasting clutch.
    1. Install the clutch assembly.
    2. Install the clutch pressure plate.

  9. Install the coasting clutch snap ring.

  10. NOTE: Insert the gauge between the pressure plate and the snap ring.

  11. Measure the coasting clutch clearance. The standard clearance is .7 mm (0.02 in) to 1.1 mm (0.04 in). If the clearance is greater than 1.7 mm (0.06 in), select and install the proper coasting clutch pressure plate.
    SNAP RING SPECIFICATION

    3.2 mm (0.126 in) F3XY-7B066-J
    3.4 mm (0.134 in) F3XY-7B066-K
    3.6 mm (0.142 in) F3XY-7B066-L
    3.8 mm (0.150 in) F3XY-7B066-M
  12. NOTE: The dish plate should be installed so that the outermost edge of the plate contacts the last clutch plate.
  13. Install the forward clutch.
    1. Install the dish plate.
    2. Install the clutch assembly.
    3. Install the pressure plate.

  14. Install the forward clutch snap ring.

  15. Measure the forward clutch clearance. The standard clearance is 0.45 mm (0.0117 in) to 0.85 mm (0.0335 in). If the clearance is greater than 1.85 mm (0.07 in), select and install the proper forward clutch pressure plate.

  16. NOTE: The other ports have to be blocked off to prevent air pressure loss.
  17. Check for forward and coasting clutch operation.
    1. Apply compressed air to check coasting clutch operation.
    2. Apply compressed air to check forward clutch operation.
