Forward and Coasting Clutch: Disassembly
- Remove the forward clutch pressure plate snap ring.
- Remove the forward clutch assembly.
- Remove the pressure plate.
- Remove the clutch assembly.
- Remove the dish plate.
- Remove the coasting clutch pressure plate snap ring.
- Remove the coasting clutch assembly.
- Remove the coasting clutch pressure plate.
- Remove the clutch pack.
- Remove the coasting clutch retainer snap ring.
- Using the special tool, compress the coasting clutch return springs.
- Remove the snap ring.
- Remove the coasting clutch spring retainer assembly from the coasting clutch cylinder.
- Remove the clutch pistons from the clutch cylinder.
- Apply compressed air to remove the coasting clutch piston.
- Apply compressed air to remove the forward clutch piston.
- Remove coasting clutch piston seals.
- Remove the forward clutch piston seals.
- Inspect the forward and coasting clutch components for damage and wear.
- Measure the thickness of the forward and coasting clutch plate facings. The standard thickness is 1.6 mm (0.063 in). If the facings are less than 1.4 mm (0.055) thick, replace all of the clutch plate facings.
- Measure the coasting clutch dish plate. The plate should measure 2.7 mm (0.1 in). If the plate is out of specification, install a new dish plate.
- Apply compressed air to the check ball on the outside of the forward clutch cylinder. Air should leak past the check ball.
- Apply compressed air to the check ball on the outside of the coasting clutch piston. Air should not leak past the check ball.
NOTE:
Do not remove the springs from the retainer.
NOTE:
The other ports have to be blocked off to prevent air pressure loss.
