Vane Air Meter Assembly

The vane air meter assembly is mounted on a bracket just below the air cleaner in the lower right corner of the engine compartment. The vane air meter contains 2 sensors that furnish input signals to the ECU. See Fig 1 .

The vane air meter assembly consists of an airflow sensor and a vane air temperature sensor. The vane air meter measures the volume of airflow to the engine. Airflow through the body moves a vane mounted on a pivot pin. This vane is connected to a variable resistor (potentiometer) which in turn is connected to a 5-volt reference voltage. The output of this potentiometer varies depending on the volume of air flowing through the sensor.

The temperature sensor in the air vane meter measures the incoming air temperature. The air volume and temperature inputs are used by ECU assembly to compute fuel flow (injector pulse duration) necessary for optimum air/fuel mixture. See Fig 2 .
