Idle Speed Controller Test

  1. Check wiring and controller for damage or deterioration. If system is okay, go to step 2). If wiring is found defective, repair as necessary.
  2. Connect test light to idle speed actuator between Red wire and clean chassis ground. Turn ignition switch to "RUN" position. If light is on, go to step 3). If light is off, repair open in power feed circuit.
  3. With test light connected, connect jumper wire from actuator Gray wire to a clean chassis ground and turn ignition switch to "RUN" position. If test light is on, go to step 4). If test light is off, replace idle speed controller.
  4. Using an ohmmeter check for continuity between wire at ECA pin 21 and Gray wire at controller. If there's continuity, problem is not in the idle speed controller. Go back to step 1) and retest system. See Fig 1 .
