Wheel Alignment Specifications & Procedures: Adjustments: Toe-In
- Loosen jam nuts at tie rod ends, and release clips at small ends of steering gear boots. Be sure boots are free on tie rods so that they will not be twisted when tie rods are turned.
- Turn tie rods into or out of the tie rod ends an equal amount on each side, keeping steering wheel centered. Since steering gear and tie rod connections are forward of front wheel spindles, the tie rods must be shortened. Screw tie rod ends inward to increase toe-in length.
- When toe-in is correct, tighten tie rod end jam nuts to 42-50 ft. lb. (57-68 N.m.). Verify that steering gear boot ends are positioned in the reduced diameter sections of the tie rods and install the boot clips.
