Engine Performance: System: Turbocharger: Operation
At idle and light throttle, the engine operates like a standard engine. When additional power is needed, exhaust gases from exhaust manifold enter the turbocharger and are condensed to form a denser air-fuel charge.
Engine exhaust gas pressure combined with heat energy initiate turbine wheel rotation and force the compressor wheel to turn. Air is compressed in this process and channeled under pressure to the intake manifold. Fuel is introduced downstream of the compressor and mixed in with the air charge.
