Turbocharger Systems Check

CAUTION: If the turbocharger overboost buzzer is activated during testing, throttle must be returned to idle immediately.
  1. To test turbocharging system, install a pressure gauge in the hose between the EGR solenoid and vacuum tree on the right of power brake booster. The pressure gauge hose must be long enough to reach into the passenger compartment.
  2. Prepare for road test. Vehicle must be accelerated from 0 to 45 MPH. Observe gauge while accelerating. Turbocharger boost for models with automatic transmission is 13 psi (.9 kg/cm2 ) and 15 psi (1 kg/cm2 ) with manual transmission.
  3. If pressure reading are not to specification or system performance is inadequate, proceed to individual component testing.
