EGR System Check
- Ensure all vacuum hoses are correctly routed and attached. Check that there is no vacuum to EGR valve at idle. Install tachometer and disconnect idle air by-pass valve electrical connector.
- Disconnect and plug EGR vacuum supply hose. Start engine and check for proper idle speed, adjust to specification on emission decal if necessary.
- Using hand-held vacuum pump, slowly apply 5-10 in. Hg to EGR valve. When vacuum is applied to EGR valve, engine should die, idle RPM should drop more than 100 RPM or idle speed should return to normal (+/- 25 RPM) after vacuum source has been removed. If any of these conditions do not occur, replace EGR valve.
