EGR System Check

  1. Ensure all vacuum hoses are correctly routed and attached. Check that there is no vacuum to EGR valve at idle. Install tachometer and disconnect idle air by-pass valve electrical connector.
  2. Disconnect and plug EGR vacuum supply hose. Start engine and check for proper idle speed, adjust to specification on emission decal if necessary.
  3. Using hand-held vacuum pump, slowly apply 5-10 in. Hg to EGR valve. When vacuum is applied to EGR valve, engine should die, idle RPM should drop more than 100 RPM or idle speed should return to normal (+/- 25 RPM) after vacuum source has been removed. If any of these conditions do not occur, replace EGR valve.
