The Body Shell: Tailgate: Notes
The tailgate fitted to MINI COOPER is of a bolted on design. The tailgate is mounted on two adjustable hinges, which are secured to the main body roof rear header panel and the upper face of the tailgate. There are two gas struts to support the tailgate and which limit tailgate open travel.
Workshop Hints
To gain access to the hinge to body bolts, the headlining will require lowering/removal.
Removal of the tailgate assembly will require the harness and washer tubes passing from the body to the tailgate to be disconnected as well as the tailgate trim panels and gas struts.
