This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI M64 01 14 dated May 2014.
SUBJECT
Automatic Deactivation of Recirculation Mode
SITUATION
The customer states the recirculation display goes out, even though the recirculation button was switched on.
CAUSE
The automatic recirculation air deactivation feature was introduced in July 2012.
PROCEDURE
- The recirculation display is shown when the recirculation button is pushed. It will automatically switch recirculation off after a few minutes, depending on interior and exterior temperatures, to allow fresh air to enter the cabin. This feature was added to reduce the amount of condensation and fogging on the inside of the windows.
- Connect the vehicle to ISTA. Select the Function Structure tab, and then select "03 Body."
- Select "Heating and air conditioning functions."
- Select "Current fault patterns."
- Select "The air recirculation function deactivates independently."
- To remove this feature, program "recirculating air deactivation" with ISTA/P 2.52.1 or higher.
Always connect a MINI approved battery charger/power supply (SI M04 08 09 ) .
- Locate the MOST bus access point in the passenger's side footwell near the bulkhead. Remove the connector piece from the securing bracket.
- Remove the two MOST bus cables from the connector piece. Insert the two cables into ICOM B. Connect the USB cable to ICOM A.
- To remove this feature, select the conversion "recirculating air deactivation."
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software. For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet/Aftersales Portal/Service/Workshop Technology/Vehicle Programming.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Covered under the terms of the MINI New Passenger Car Limited Warranty.

Labor operation code 00 00 006 is a Main labor operation. If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 00 00 556 instead.
Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance. Enter the Chassis Number, which consists of the last 7 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Click on the "Search" button, and then enter the applicable flat rate labor operation in the FR code field.
Even though work time labor operation code 64 10 011 ends in "011," it is not considered a Main labor operation. Also, since the "work time" FRU allowance to be claimed is specified, a separate punch time is not required.
If a control module or component was working properly and/or had no related faults stored prior to vehicle programming and it fails to program correctly or requires initialization, this additional work must be claimed with separate labor operations under the defect code listed above; refer to KSD2.
Repairs to control modules and components with pre-existing conditions are not eligible to be claimed under the defect code listed in this bulletin.
