Superceded Bulletin(s): SI M12 03 16, Date of Issue:  April 2016

Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.

NOTE: This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI M12 03 16 dated April 2016.

SITUATION

If the engine has been off for long period of time, when started it may run very rough at idle with the Service Engine Soon (MIL) light on.

The engine power is reduced and a Check Control Message (CCM) "Drive Faulty; Drive at moderate speed" is also displayed.

If the engine is then stopped and restarted the problem would no longer be present.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves the F55 and F56 vehicles with the B36M and B38M engines produced from January 8, 2014 to August 20, 2015.

Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as "Open" when checked either in AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.

CAUSE

When starting the engine after it has been off for an extended period, the oil pressure supply at idle is not sufficient to fill the VANOS hydraulic control system quickly enough.

PROCEDURE

Program the vehicle using the latest version of ISTA/P.

Target integration level: F056-15-07-503 or higher

For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.

Always connect a MINI approved battery charger/power supply  (SI  M04 08 09  ).
