Federal Models

Reed valves are actuated by exhaust vacuum being generated from pulsation in the exhaust system. Extra air is drawn through the air cleaner and supplied into the exhaust system by valve motion corresponding to exhaust vacuum. Two identical reed valves are used to supply secondary air into 2 ports in the exhaust system.

One port is at the exhaust manifold. The other port is between the 2 catalytic converters. Reed valve supplying air to exhaust manifold is actuated by pulsation in the exhaust manifold, and reed valve supplying air to catalytic converters is supplied by pulsation in exhaust system between front and rear catalytic converters.
