Fuel Injected

  1. Disconnect hoses from purge control valve and remove valve. On all except Galant, van and wagon models apply 7.8 in. Hg to top vertical nipple of purge control valve. On Van and wagon models, apply 7.8 in. Hg to bottom nipple of purge control valve. See Figure . Blow into purge control valve's port to canister and check that air flows through valve. Replace valve if it does not operate as outlined.
  2. On Galant, remove Black/Red hose at purge control solenoid valve and connect a hand vacuum pump to solenoid nipple. Apply vacuum to solenoid valve, vacuum should hold and not leak off.
  3. With vacuum applied, disconnect electrical connector and apply battery voltage to solenoid connectors. Vacuum should leak off when voltage is applied. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance across solenoid terminals. Reading should be 36-44 ohms at 68°F (20°C). See Fig 1 .
