Jet Valve Adjustment

NOTE: Incorrect jet valve clearance will adversely affect emission levels. Adjust jet valve clearance before adjusting intake valve clearance.
  1. Before adjusting jet valve, retighten cylinder head bolts with engine cold. See CYLINDER HEAD TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table. Adjust jet valve clearance with intake valve adjusting screw fully loosened.
  2. With engine at normal operating temperature, stop engine, remove rocker cover and position appropriate piston at TDC of compression stroke.
NOTE: Tensile strength of jet valve spring is weak. DO NOT  force screw to turn as this will put excess pressure on spring.
  3. If out of specification, loosen lock nut and adjust clearance using a feeler gauge. See Fig 2 . Turn adjusting screw so clearance is .010" (.25 mm).
