Steering Column - Precis: Inspection

  1. Check steering shaft for runout. Runout should not exceed .02" (.5 mm). Check for worn or damaged bearing. Check steering shaft length. Steering shaft length should be 23.17" (588.5 mm). If measurement is less than specification, replace steering shaft.
  2. Check for play, noise or rough rotation in joints of intermediate shaft. Check cover assembly for damage. Replace components as required.
