ISSUE & TIP

When installing a timing belt on a 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse equipped with a twin cam engine, the timing marks on the intake and exhaust cam gears can be, lined up using a piece of stretched string or rubberband. Stretch the string across the front of the gears then sight along the string to check the gear aligmnent. One gear may appear slightly out of alignment (too high or too low), but moving it to the next tooth will put the cam one tooth out of alignment.
