Relieving Fuel Pressure

On Eclipse, Eclipse Spyder, Galant and Montero Sport, remove fuel pump relay. On all other vehicles, remove fuel pump relay or disconnect fuel pump wiring harness connector. For fuel pump relay location, see FUEL PUMP RELAY LOCATION table. On Montero, fold down second seat, remove upper and lower service covers and disconnect fuel module connector. On Diamante and Mirage, remove rear seat cushion and lift carpet, or remove floor plate, to access fuel pump wiring harness connector.
Start engine. Let engine run until it stops. Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Install fuel pump relay, or reconnect fuel pump harness connector.
