Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor: Montero

  1. If using scan tool, connect scan tool to OBD-II Data Link Connector (DLC) located below instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure. If using voltmeter, disconnect accelerator pedal position sensor connector. See Fig 1. Connect a test harness set between accelerator pedal position sensor connector and accelerator pedal position sensor. See Fig 2. Connect voltmeter leads to test harness terminals No. 3 (main output) and No. 1 (main ground). Go to next step.
  2. Loosen accelerator pedal position sensor mounting bolts, and hold accelerator pedal position sensor temporary. Check that accelerator pedal arm touches full-closed stopper. See Fig 3. Adjust pedal arm by adjusting screw so that clearance "A" is 0.020- 0.037 in (0.5-0.93 mm).
  3. Hold adjusting screw with lock nut. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Turn accelerator pedal position sensor until output from accelerator pedal position sensor is 905-1165 millivolts. Tighten accelerator pedal position sensor mounting bolts securely.
