Fail-Safe System Diagnosis (Maxima VG30E)

  1. Turn ignition on. Perform MODE III (SELF-DIAGNOSTICS) under DUAL LED SYSTEM in TESTS W/CODES article. If Code 11 is present, check crankshaft position sensor. See CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR under ENGINE SENSORS & SWITCHES  . After making repairs, start engine to ensure CHECK ENGINE light is off.
  2. If Code 11 is not present but CHECK ENGINE light is on, try to enter MODE III again. If unable to enter MODE III, replace ECM. If MODE III is entered and Code 11 is not present, check for short in CHECK ENGINE light circuit causing light to stay on.
