Fast Idle Control Device (FICD) System Test (300ZX)

  1. Turn ignition on. With FICD solenoid connected, measure voltage between ground and FICD solenoid harness connector terminal Black/Red wire. Battery voltage should be present. If battery voltage is present, go to step 3). If battery voltage is not present, check Green fusible link located in fusible link holder next to battery. Replace fusible link as necessary.
  2. Check 10-amp fuse located in fuse and relay box at left front corner of engine compartment. Replace if necessary. If Green fusible link and 10-amp fuse are okay, repair open in Black/Red wire between FICD relay harness connector and FICD solenoid harness connector.
  3. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. ECM is located behind glove box. Check continuity between ECM harness connector terminal No. 33 (Red wire) and FICD solenoid harness connector Red wire. See Figure and Figure . Continuity should exist. If continuity exists, check FICD solenoid. See FAST IDLE CONTROL DEVICE (FICD) TEST. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Red wire between ECM harness connector and FICD solenoid harness connector.
