If no faults were found while performing BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES, proceed with self-diagnostics. If no fault codes or only pass codes are present after entering self-diagnostics, proceed to appropriate TESTS W/O CODES article for diagnosis by symptom (i.e., ROUGH IDLE, NO START, etc.).

The self-diagnostic system can be accessed using Nissan Consult tester or a generic OBD-II compliant generic scan tool. Self-diagnostic test procedures in this article are for use with generic scan tester. Ensure scan tool is certified ODB-II standard. If an OBD-II type scan tool is not available codes can be retrieved from Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL). Retrieving codes using MIL differ greatly from scan tool.
