Section 118 (Engine Controls - System & Component Testing): Introduction

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2003 Nissan Xterra, 2003 Nissan Sentra, 2003 Nissan Pathfinder, 2003 Nissan Murano, and 2003 Nissan Maxima. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Before testing separate components or systems, perform procedures in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article. Since the introduction of OBD-II, most all computer-controlled and monitored components set a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) if they malfunction. Information for these components is covered in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article.

NOTE: Testing individual components does not isolate a short or open circuit. Perform all voltage tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure.
NOTE: For wire color and connector color abbreviation definitions, see WIRE COLOR IDENTIFICATION  table.
