Inspection 5 Steering Angle Sensor System

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

  1. SELF-DIAGNOSIS RESULT CHECK 

    Check self-diagnosis results.

    Steering angle sensor system

    Is the above displayed in the self-diagnosis item? 

    1. YES : GO TO 2.
    2. NO : Inspection End
  2. CONNECTOR INSPECTION 
    1. Disconnect the steering angle sensor connector and VDC/TCS/ABS control unit connector and check the terminals for deformation, disconnection, looseness, and so on. If there is an error, repair or replace the terminal.
    2. Reconnect the connectors and Re-conduct a VDC/TCS/ABS control unit self-diagnosis.

    OK or NG 

    1. OK : The connector terminal contact is loose, damaged, open or shorted.
    2. NG : GO TO 3.
  3. STEERING ANGLE SENSOR HARNESS INSPECTION 
    1. Check the CAN communication system. Refer to INSPECTION 14 CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM .
    2. Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect the steering angle sensor connector M22 and VDC/TCS/ABS control unit connector.
    3. Check the continuity between VDC/TCS/ABS control unit connector terminal 2 (Y/R) and steering angle sensor connector terminal 3 (Y/R).

      CONTINUITY REFERENCE DATA - VDC/TCS/ABS CONTROL UNIT CONNECTOR & STEERING ANGLE SENSOR CONNECTOR

      VDC/TCS/ABS control unit (Harness connector E118)  Steering angle sensor (Harness connector M21)  Continuity 
      2 (Y/R)  3 (Y/R)  Continuity should exist. 

    OK or NG 

    1. OK : GO TO 4.
    2. NG : If the open or short in harness, repair or replace the harness.
  4. DATA MONITOR CHECK 
    1. Connect the steering angle sensor and VDC/TCS/ABS control unit connectors.
    2. Conduct "Data Monitor" of the "STEERING ANGLE SIGNAL" to check if the status is normal.
      STEERING WHEEL POSITION AND DATA MONITOR

      Steering condition Data monitor
      Straight-ahead -5deg - +deg
      Turn wheel to the right by 90° Approx. + 9 deg
      Turn wheel to the left by 90°. Approx. -90deg

    OK or NG 

    1. OK : Re-conduct the VDC/TCS/ABS control unit self-diagnosis.
    2. NG : Replace spiral cable (steering angle sensor) and adjust neutral position of steering angle sensor.

      Refer to ADJUSTMENT OF STEERING ANGLE SENSOR NEUTRAL POSITION .
