Code EO41, C(3)I Ignition Cam Sensor
The cam sensor is a magnetic "hall switch" type that provides the ECM with a voltage signal on the number 1 cylinder compression stroke. This information is used by the ECM to properly time sequential fuel injection. When the cam signal is not received by the ECM, fuel injection is simultaneous rather than sequential.
Code EO41 is set when: Engine is running and cam sensor signal is not seen by the ECM for 1 second.
- Checks to see if ECM recognizes a problem, and sets failure code.
- The voltage at this point is supplied by the ignition module, and must be pulsed by the cam sensor to be recognized by the ECM as a signal of 1-9 volts. This is why the voltage is checked while cranking the engine.
