Power windows are driven by reversible permanent magnet motors. Each motor is controlled by a switch with 2 sets of contacts that are normally closed to ground. With the power switch in the UP position, one set of contacts is closed, applying battery voltage to the power window motor. The remaining set of contacts remains closed, providing the ground to complete the circuit. With the power window switch in the DOWN position, the functions of the switches are revered and the motor runs in the opposite direction.
