Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Turn ignition switch off. Connect scan tool. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, attempt to establish communication with BCM. If scan tool communicates with BCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with BCM, go to step 3).
  2. Select BCM DTCs and check for DTCs. If any BCM related DTCs are present, diagnose using appropriate BCM diagnostic test procedures. If no BCM related DTCs are present, system is okay.
  3. Using scan tool, attempt to establish communication with other systems connected to the same serial data line. If scan tool communicates with other systems, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with other systems, go to DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .
  4. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe test light between each fuse pertaining to BCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If test light illuminates on all circuits, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate on all circuit, go to step 9).
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM harness connectors C1, C2 and C3. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using test light connected to ground, backprobe each BCM power circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If test light illuminates on all circuits, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate on all circuits, go to step 11).
  6. Connect test light to battery voltage and backprobe each BCM ground circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If test light illuminates on all circuits, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate on all circuits, go to step 12).
  7. Using DVOM, check continuity between BCM harness connector terminal B5 (Light Green wire) and DLC terminal No. 2 (Purple wire). If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, go to step 10).
  8. Replace BCM. Perform BCM setup. See BCM PROGRAMMING  . After replacing BCM, go to step 13).
  9. Repair poor connection or open in feed to fuse. If fuse is open, locate and repair short to circuit connected to fuse. After repairs, go to step 13).
  10. Repair poor connection or open in circuit between DLC terminal No. 2 and BCM harness connector terminal B5. After repairs, go to step 13).
  11. Repair poor connection or open in affected BCM power circuit. After repairs, go to step 13).
  12. Repair poor connection or open in affected BCM ground circuit. After repairs, go to next step.
  13. Turn ignition off. Reconnect components and connectors. Clear DTCs using scan tool. Recheck system operation.
