Battery Undercharged Or Overcharged
NOTE:
Connector Test Adapter Kit (J 35616-A) must be used whenever a test procedure requires checking or probing terminal.
- Disconnect generator connector. turn ignition on. Connect scan tool. Clear DTCs. Select MISC tests, ENG outputs, and GEN "L" terminal. Command generator ON. Check voltage at generator connector terminal L. If 5 volts exists, go to next step. If 5 volts does not exist, go to step 6).
- Check voltage at generator BATT terminal. If 9-13 volts exists, go to next step. If 9-13 volts does not exist, go to step 9).
- Reconnect generator connector. Start engine and run at fast idle. Ensure all accessories are off. Check battery voltage. If voltage is 13-16 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 13-16 volts, go to step 10).
- Load test generator. If generator is okay, go to next step. If generator fails load test, go to step 10).
- Replace battery. Recheck charging system.
- Check for open or poor connections at generator connector terminal "L" and PCM connector C2 terminal No. 61 (Red wire). If connections are okay, go to step 8). If connections need repair, go to next step.
- Repair as needed. Recheck charging system.
- Replace PCM. Recheck charging system.
- Repair open circuit between battery and generator terminal BATT. Recheck charging system.
- Repair or replace generator. Recheck charging system.
