Test E: Passenger Power Window Inoperative

NOTE: Reviewing system description and operation information will help determine if condition described by customer is normal operation, and may help determine correct symptom diagnostic procedure when a malfunction exists.
  1. If power window system description and operation has been reviewed, go to next step. If description and operation has not been reviewed, see POWER WINDOW SYSTEM  under DESCRIPTION & OPERATION. After power window system description and operation has been reviewed, go to next step.
  2. Attempt to operate suspect passenger power window. If suspect passenger power window does not operate properly, go to next step. If suspect passenger power window operates properly, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  .
  3. Disconnect suspect passenger power window switch 8-pin harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a test light between ground and suspect passenger power window switch 8-pin harness connector terminal "B" (Dark Blue wire). See Figure . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  6 .
  4. NOTE: Driver door window switch may be referred to as left front window switch, master window switch or master switch.
  5. Connect test light between suspect passenger power window switch 8-pin harness connector terminal "A" (Purple wire for left and right rear windows; Tan wire for right front window) and terminal "E" (Dark Green wire for left rear window; Light Green wire for right rear window; Light Blue wire for right front window). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Activate master switch in down and up positions for suspect passenger power window. If test light illuminates in both positions, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate in both positions, go to step  7 .
  6. Reconnect suspect passenger power window switch 8-pin harness connector. Disconnect suspect passenger power window motor 2-pin harness connector. Connect a test light between suspect passenger power window motor 2-pin harness connector terminal "A" (Brown wire) and terminal "B" (Dark Blue wire). Activate suspect passenger power window switch in down and up positions. If test light does not illuminate in both positions, go to step  8 . If test light illuminates in both positions, go to step  9 .
  7. Check for open in Dark Blue wire between 5-pin master switch harness connector C2 terminal "A" and suspect passenger power window switch 8-pin harness connector terminal "B". See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  15 . If no problem is found, go to step  10 .
  8. Check for open or short to voltage in suspect master window switch down signal circuit between suspect passenger power window switch 8-pin harness connector terminal "A" (Purple wire for left and right rear windows; Tan wire for right front window) and master switch harness connector. Check for open or short to voltage in suspect master window switch up signal circuit between suspect passenger power window switch 8-pin harness connector terminal "E" (Dark Green wire for left rear window; Light Green wire for right rear window; Light Blue wire for right front window) and master switch harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  15 . If no problem is found, go to step  10 .
  9. Check for open or short to voltage in suspect power window motor down circuit (Brown wire) between suspect passenger power window motor harness connector terminal "A" and suspect passenger power window switch harness connector terminal "D". Check for open or short to voltage in suspect power window motor up circuit (Dark Blue wire) between suspect passenger power window motor harness connector terminal "B" and suspect passenger power window switch harness connector terminal "H". See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  15 . If no problem is found, go to step  11 .
  10. Check for poor connection at suspect power window motor harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  15 . If no problem is found, go to step  12 .
  11. Check for poor connections at master switch harness connectors. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  15 . If no problem is found, go to step  13 .
  12. Check for poor connection at suspect passenger window switch harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  15 . If no problem is found, go to step  14 .
  13. Replace suspect passenger power window motor. See WINDOW MOTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  15 .
  14. Replace master switch. See WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  15 .
  15. Replace suspect passenger power window switch. See WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  16. Operate system to verify repairs. If system does not operate properly, go to step  3 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
