  2. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If scan tool communicates with IPC and PCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with IPC and PCM, diagnose communication problem. See TEST F: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  3. Using scan tool, select IPC and PCM display DTCs function. If scan tool displays any DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DTCs, repair engine cooling system by symptom. See ELECTRIC COOLING FANS - CARS article in ENGINE COOLING.
  4. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", diagnose communication problem. See TEST F: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", repair other DTCs as necessary. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
