Detonation Sensor Test

NOTE: Detonation sensor is used on Calif. V8 engines only.
  1. Connect variable timing light or timing probe to engine. Start engine and run on second highest step of fast idle cam (minimum 1200 RPM). Tap lightly on intake manifold near sensor using suitable metal object.
  2. Using timing light or timing probe, look for decrease in timing (maximum 11°). Decrease will be directly proportional to strength and frequency of tapping.
  3. If sensor fails to perform as specified, replace and repeat test. If new sensor fails to perform as specified, check wiring back to computer.
