Description & Operation
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system allows vehicle doors to be locked or unlocked, and trunk to be unlocked using a hand-held transmitter. RKE module can receive a signal from up to 4 transmitters. Each transmitter has its own Vehicle Access Code (VAC). The VAC is programmed into the RKE module memory.
RKE transmitter has 4 buttons: UNLOCK, LOCK, TRUNK RELEASE and PANIC. Pressing UNLOCK button once, unlocks driver's door and enables illuminated entry. Pressing UNLOCK button twice within 5 seconds, unlocks all doors. RKE system can be programmed to open all doors with one button press. See DOOR ONE BUTTON PRESS ENABLE/DISABLE under PROGRAMMING.
When LOCK button is pressed, parking lights will flash and horn will sound (chirp) if horn enable/disable feature is activated, signaling that "lock all doors" signal has been received and set. See HORN ENABLE/DISABLE under PROGRAMMING. Illuminated entry operation is canceled and interior lights fade out.
Pressing and releasing TRUNK RELEASE button twice within 5 seconds will actuate trunk release solenoid, opening trunk lid slightly. RKE system can be programmed to open trunk with one button press. See TRUNK ONE BUTTON PRESS ENABLE/DISABLE under PROGRAMMING.
Pressing PANIC button will activate Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) for approximately 3 minutes. Headlights and marker lights will flash, horn will pulse on and off, and interior lights will turn on. VTSS can be cancelled by pressing PANIC button a second time or if vehicle reaches a speed of 15 MPH.
RKE module retains VAC even when battery power is lost. RKE module must have at least one, but no more than 4 transmitters. Transmitter maximum control range is approximately 23 ft. (7 m). Transmitter is powered by two 3-volt batteries (DL2016 or equivalent). A slight delay of up to 2 seconds can occur before doors or trunk will unlock.
