NOTE: After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. Unless instructed otherwise in test step, reconnect any disconnected connectors.
  1. Close all doors except driver door. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on bottom of instrument panel, to left of brake pedal. See Figure. Go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, select BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER, then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read DVR DOOR AJAR SW status. If scan tool displays OPEN, go to next step. If scan tool does not display OPEN, leave scan tool connected and go to step  14.
  3. Close driver door. Read DVR DOOR AJAR SW status. If scan tool displays OPEN, go to next step. If scan tool does not display OPEN, go to step  8.
  4. Disconnect instrument cluster connector. Instrument cluster connector is a 26-pin Black connector, located behind left upper instrument panel. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of instrument cluster connector terminal No. 6, panel lights dimmer signal circuit (Red wire). See Figure. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, leave instrument cluster connector disconnected and go to next step. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, leave instrument cluster connector disconnected and go to step  7.
  5. Disconnect multifunction switch connector. Multifunction switch connector is located under upper steering column shroud. Using ohmmeter, check resistance of instrument cluster connector terminal No. 6, panel lights dimmer signal circuit (Red wire). If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair Red wire for short to ground. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, leave instrument cluster connector disconnected and go to next step.
  6. Remove fuse No. 13 from Power Distribution Center (PDC). Fuses are identified in label on PDC cover. Using ohmmeter, check resistance of instrument cluster connector terminal No. 3, courtesy lights control circuit (Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair Yellow wire for short to ground. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, replace multifunction switch.
  7. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - NEON article.
  8. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect instrument cluster connector. Instrument cluster connector is a 26-pin Black connector, located behind left upper instrument panel. Disconnect driver door ajar switch connector. Disconnect Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module connector. Go to next step.
  9. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and driver door ajar switch connector terminal, driver door ajar switch sense circuit (Tan wire). If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair Tan wire for short to ground. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, reconnect instrument cluster and RKE module connectors and go to next step.
  10. Open driver door. Using scan tool, select BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER, then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read DVR DOOR AJAR SW status. If scan tool displays OPEN, replace door ajar switch. If scan tool does not display OPEN, reconnect driver door ajar switch connector and go to next step.
  11. Disconnect RKE module connector. Using scan tool, select BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER, then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read DVR DOOR AJAR SW status. If scan tool displays OPEN, replace RKE module. If scan tool does not display OPEN, reconnect RKE module connector and go to next step.
  12. Move panel lights dimmer switch to middle position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector terminal No. 6, panel lights dimmer signal circuit (Red wire). If resistance is less than 100 ohms, leave instrument cluster connector disconnected and go to step  19. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, leave instrument cluster connector disconnected and go to next step.
  13. Remove fuse No. 13 from Power Distribution Center (PDC). Fuses are identified in label on PDC cover. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector terminal No. 3, courtesy lights control circuit (Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair Yellow wire for short to ground. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - NEON article.
  14. Using scan tool, select BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER, then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read DVR DOOR AJAR SW status. Observe scan tool while removing each passenger door ajar switch. If scan tool displays PAS DOOR AJAR SW OPEN after removing any switch, replace defective switch. If scan tool does not display PAS DOOR AJAR SW OPEN, go to next step.
  15. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect instrument cluster connector. Instrument cluster connector is a 26-pin Black connector, located behind left upper instrument panel. Disconnect all passenger door ajar switch connectors. Disconnect Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module connector. Go to next step.
  16. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and each passenger door ajar switch connector, passenger door ajar circuit (Light Blue/Orange wires). If resistance is less than 100 ohms on any circuit, repair Light Blue/Orange wire(s) for short to ground. If resistance is 100 ohms or more on all circuits, reconnect all connectors and go to next step.
  17. Close driver door. Using scan tool, select BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER, then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read DVR DOOR AJAR SW status. If scan tool displays OPEN, go to next step. If scan tool does not display OPEN, go to step  22.
  18. Move panel lights dimmer switch to middle position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector terminal No. 6, panel lights dimmer signal circuit (Red wire). If resistance is less than 100 ohms, leave instrument cluster connector disconnected and go to next step. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, go to step  20.
  19. Disconnect multifunction switch connector. Multifunction switch is located under upper steering column shroud. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector terminal No. 6, panel light dimmer signal circuit (Red wire). If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair Red wire for short to ground. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, replace multifunction switch.
  20. Remove fuse No. 13 from Power Distribution Center (PDC). Fuses are identified in label on PDC cover.
