Test C: Keyless Entry System Inoperative

  1. Check power door lock function using door mounted switch. If power door lock functions properly, go to next step. If power door lock does not function properly, see appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS article.
  2. Check rear compartment release function using instrument panel mounted switch. If rear compartment release functions properly, go to next step. If rear compartment release does not function properly, repair wiring as necessary. See POWER REAR COMPARTMENT & FUEL DOOR RELEASE SYSTEMS article.
    3. NOTE: Inspect keyless entry transmitter to ensure it is correct model for this vehicle. A wrong model transmitter may pass this test, but will not activate vehicle remote system.
  3. Turn on Keyless Entry Tester (J43241). Place transmitter on keyless entry tester pad. Press each button of transmitter one at a time. If a tone does not sound or the Green light does not illuminate after each button is pressed, go to next step. If a tone sounds and the Green light illuminates after each button is pressed, go to step  8 .
  4. If none of the buttons sound tone or illuminate the Green light, go to next step. If any button sounds tone and illuminates Green light, replace transmitter. Go to step  7 .
  5. Replace transmitter battery. Resynchronize transmitter. See RESYNCHRONIZING PROCEDURE  under PROGRAMMING. Go to next step.
  6. Turn on Keyless Entry Tester (J43241). Place transmitter on keyless entry tester pad. Press each button of transmitter one at a time. If a tone does not sound or the Green light does not illuminate after each button is pressed, go to next step. If a tone sounds and the Green light illuminates after each button is pressed, go to step  8 .
  7. Replace RKE transmitter. Program RKE transmitter. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. Go to step  11 .
  8. Operate RKE transmitter within range of vehicle. If all RKE functions do not operate properly, go to next step. If all RKE functions operate properly, go to step  11 .
  9. Program RKE transmitter. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. If BCM did not lock both doors, unlock driver door and open rear compartment lid, go to next step. If programming was successful, go to step  11 .
  10. Replace BCM. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article. Go to next step.
  11. Operate system to verify repair.
