Remote Programming
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of instrument panel.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position.
- Turn off all vehicle accessories.
- Using scan tool, select service programming function.
- Identify vehicle information as requested by scan tool.
- Select type of module being programmed.
- Select the type of programming to be performed.
- Verify displayed VIN with vehicle VIN. If displayed VIN does not match actual VIN, write down actual VIN and correct VIN at Techline terminal.
- When complete, exit service programming function.
- Turn scan tool and disconnect from vehicle.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
- Connect scan tool to Techline terminal.
- Select service programming function.
- Select type scan tool being used.
- Select type of programming to be performed.
- Verify displayed VIN with vehicle VIN. Correct VIN as necessary.
- Select type of control module being programmed.
- Identify what type of programming being performed, from following list:
- Normal - This type of programming is for updating an existing calibration or programming a new controller.
- Vehicle Configuration Index (VCI) - This selection is used if vehicle VIN is unavailable or not recognized by the Techline terminal. Personal contact with Techline Customer Support center is needed to use this option.
- Reconfigure - Used to reconfigure vehicle, such as tire size and axle ratio changes.
- Select appropriate calibration file.
- Ensure all connections are secure.
- Select REPROG function to initiate download of new calibration to the scan tool.
- After download is complete, turn Off scan tool.
- Disconnect scan tool from the Techline terminal.
- Install scan tool to DLC.
- Turn scan tool On.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position.
- Select service programming function.
- Select PROGRAM function.
- After download is complete, EXIT service programming function.
- Turn ignition switch OFF for 30 seconds.
- Turn scan tool Off.
- If a PCM is replaced, perform following procedures:
- Crankshaft position sensor system variation learn procedure. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- GM Oil Life System - Resetting in maintenance and lubrication. See MAINTENANCE REMINDER LIGHTS article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
- Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) complete system set procedure. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Programming theft deterrent system components in theft deterrent. See PROGRAMMING THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM COMPONENTS .
NOTE:
DO NOT turn ignition switch to OFF position, if programming procedure is interrupted or unsuccessful. Ensure that all PCM and DLC connections are secure and Techline operating software is up to date. Attempt to reprogram PCM. If PCM cannot be programmed, replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
