Power Mirrors Inoperative: Testing
- After reviewing power mirror description and operation, go to next step. See DESCRIPTION & OPERATION .
- Operate both left and right power mirrors through full range of motion. If both power mirrors do not operate normally, go to next step. If both power mirrors operate normally, concern may be intermittent. See PRELIMINARY INSPECTION under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- If both power mirrors are completely inoperative, go to next step. If only one mirror is inoperative, go to step 6 .
- Remove power mirror switch from driver's door mounted switch panel. See POWER MIRROR SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect power mirror switch 8-pin harness connector. Using test light connected to ground probe power mirror switch harness connector terminal "E" (Orange wire). See Fig 1 . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 7 .
- Connect test light between driver's power mirror switch harness connector terminals "E" (Orange wire) and "D" (Black wire). If test light illuminates, go to step 9 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step 15 .
- Disconnect inoperative power mirror(s) harness connector. Using test light connected to ground, probe specified harness connector terminals. See TESTING POWER MIRROR CIRCUITS
table. See Fig 1
and Fig 2
. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Using power mirror selector switch select inoperative mirror position. Operate power mirror switch left and right, and then to up and down positions. If test light illuminates in both positions, go to step 12
. If test light does not illuminate in both positions, go to step 8

Power Mirror Switch Position Test Between Terminals Left Mirror Left/Right H & F Up/Down H & G Right Mirror Left/Right A & C Up/Down A & C - Test for open or short to ground in Orange wire between power mirror switch harness connector terminal "E" and CC fuse block harness connector C2 terminal F5. See Fig 1 and Fig 3 . If problem exists, make necessary repairs. After repairs are made, go to step 18 . If problem does not exist, go to step 9 .
- Test for open between power mirror switch and outside mirror motor circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If no problem exists, go to next step. If problem exists, make necessary repairs and go to step 18 .
- Connect any disconnected power mirror harness connectors. Disconnect power mirror switch (if connected). With test light connected to battery voltage, probe all power mirror motor control circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If test light does not illuminate at any terminal, go to next step. If test light illuminates at any terminal, go to step 13 .
- Using test light connected to ground, probe motor control circuits of power mirror switch harness connector terminals. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If test light does not illuminate at any terminal, go to next step. If test light illuminates at any terminal, go to step 14 .
- Inspect for poor, loose or corroded terminals in power mirror switch harness connector. If problem exists, make necessary repairs. After repair are made go to step 18 . If no problem exists, go to step 16 .
- Inspect for poor, loose or corroded terminals in power mirror motor harness connector. If problem exists, make necessary repairs and go to step 18 . If no problem exists, go to step 17 .
- Repair short to ground in power mirror motor circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repairs are made, go to step 18 .
- Repair short to voltage in power mirror motor circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repairs are made, go to step 18 .
- Repair open in power mirror switch circuit ground circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repairs are made, go to step 18 .
- Replace power mirror switch. See POWER MIRROR SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to step 18 .
- Replace inoperative power mirror assembly. See POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
- Operate power mirrors to verify repairs. If mirrors operate normally, system is okay. If problem still exists, go to step 2 .
