Test D: Power Window Inoperative Driver's Door

  1. Review power window description and operation. See DESCRIPTION & OPERATION  . Perform preliminary inspection. See PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. After performing inspection, go to next step.
  2. Operate power window system. If driver's window does not operate normally, go to next step. If driver's window operates normally, window concern may be intermittent. For aid in diagnosing intermittent problems, see PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS  under INTERMITTENTS.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect driver's window motor 2-pin harness connector. Window motor is located behind door panel in appropriate door. Using a test light connected to ground, probe driver's window motor harness connector terminal "B" (Dark Blue wire). Press driver's window switch to up position. If test light illuminates when window is commanded up, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate when window is commanded up, go to step  5 .
  4. Connect test light between driver's window motor harness connector terminals "B" (Dark Blue wire) and "A" (Brown wire). Press driver's window switch to down position. If test light illuminates when window is commanded down, go to step  7 . If test light does not illuminate when window is commanded down, go to step  6 .
  5. Check for open in Dark Blue wire between driver's window motor harness connector terminal "A" and driver's window switch harness connector C2 terminal "C". See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  11 . If no problem is found, go to step  8 .
  6. Check for open in Brown wire between driver's window motor harness connector terminal "B" and driver's window switch harness connector C2 terminal "D". See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  11 . If no problem is found, go to step  8 .
  7. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in master window motor harness connector. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  11 . If no problem is found, go to step  9 .
  8. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in driver's window switch harness connectors. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  11 . If no problem is found, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace driver's window motor. See WINDOW MOTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to step  11 .
  10. Replace master window switch. See WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  11. Check system for proper operation. If system operates properly, test is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to step  3 .
