Mil On Steady

NOTE: For circuit reference, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  1. Perform powertrain diagnostic system check. See POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Observe MIL. If MIL turns off when ignition is turned on, go to step  5. If MIL does not turn off when ignition is turned on, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Observe MIL. If MIL is illuminated, go to next step. If MIL is not illuminated, go to step  7.
  4. Remove Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). Check MIL control circuit for short to ground between PCM and IPC. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  8. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  5. Repair MIL control circuit for short to voltage. After repairs, go to step  8.
  6. Replace IPC. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. After repairs, go to step  8.
  7. Replace PCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. Perform PCM relearn procedure. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After repairs, go to next step.
  8. Operate system to verify repair.
