Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform powertrain diagnostic system check. See POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, monitor 24X crank sensor and CAM signal. If 24X and CAM signals are present, go to next step. If 24X cranks and CAM signals are not present, go to DTC P0336 .
- If a mechanical engine knock can be heard, repair engine mechanical problem before proceeding with this test. Using scan tool, observe FREEZE FRAME/FAILURE RECORDS data for this DTC. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds. Operate vehicle within the conditions for running this DTC or as close to FREEZE FRAME/FAILURE RECORDS data observed. See CODE ENABLE CRITERIA . If DTC fails this ignition, go to next step. If DTC does not fail this ignition, problem is intermittent.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect KS harness connector. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using a DVOM, check voltage between ground and KS harness connector terminal No. 1 (Dark Blue wire). If voltage reading is zero volts, go to step 6. If voltage reading is not zero volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Repair short to voltage in KS signal circuit (Dark Blue wire). After repairs, go to step 10.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect the PCM harness connector. Check for open or short to ground in Dark Blue wire between KS and PCM harness connectors. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 10. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Check KS signal circuit (Dark Blue wire) for poor terminal connection at sensor. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 10. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Check KS signal circuit (Dark Blue wire) for a poor terminal connection at PCM. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 10. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Replace knock sensor. After replacing sensor, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds. Operate vehicle within the conditions for running this DTC. See CODE ENABLE CRITERIA . If DTC runs and passes, go to next step. If DTC resets, go to step 2.
- Using scan tool, observe the stored information and CAPTURE INFO. If scan tool displays any undiagnosed DTCs, diagnose affected DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no DTCs are displayed, system is okay.
