Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn Procedure

- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located below steering column. See Figure .
- Apply parking brake.
- Block drive wheels.
- Close hood.
- Place transmission in Park (automatic) or Neutral (manual).
- Start engine and let idle until coolant temperature reaches 150°F (65°C).
- Turn off all accessories.
- Enable the Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn Procedure with the scan tool.
- Apply and hold service brakes.
- Slowly raise engine speed to 4,000 RPM.
- Immediately release throttle when the engine speed decreases.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position for 15 seconds after the learn procedure is completed successfully.
NOTE:
If CKP System Variation Learn Procedure cannot be completed successfully, refer to DTC P1336. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE for additional diagnostic information.
NOTE:
After the ignition switch is turned to START position, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) must see a change in the state of brake switch (released to applied) to run the learn procedure. Also, the service brakes, not the parking brake, must be held throughout the duration of learn procedure.
NOTE:
While the learn procedure is in progress, release throttle immediately when engine starts to decelerate. Engine control is returned to the operator and engine will respond to throttle position after the learn procedure is complete.
