Off-Board Programming

  1. Obtain VIN for vehicle which PCM is being programmed.
  2. Using Techline terminal, select service programming function.
  3. Select scan tool, reprogram ECU, and Off-Board Programming Adapter as ECU location.
  4. Connect control module, off-board programming adapter, and the scan tool as described by Techline terminal. Ensure correct harness connector from off-board programming adapter kit is used.
  5. Using scan tool, select service programming REQUEST INFORMATION function. Scan tool communicates with control module and receives access code.
  6. Using scan tool, exit service programming REQUEST INFORMATION function.
  7. Disconnect scan tool from the off-board programming adapter.
  8. Connect scan tool to the Techline terminal.
  9. Turn scan tool on.
  10. Using Techline terminal, enter VIN of vehicle that will be receiving the control module.
  11. Techline terminal will display message, attaching to database.
  12. Identify type of programming that being performed.
  13. Select appropriate calibration file.
  14. Ensure all connections are secure.
  15. Techline terminal displays a summary screen that summarizes selections. After confirming choices, Techline terminal automatically loads calibration files to scan tool.
  16. After download is complete, turn scan tool off.
  17. Disconnect scan tool from Techline terminal.
  18. Connect scan tool to off-board programming adapter.
  19. Using scan tool, select SERVICE PROGRAMMING function.
  20. NOTE: DO NOT turn Off the off-board programming adapter if programming procedure is interrupted or unsuccessful. Ensure control module and off-board programming adapter connections are secure and Techline operating software is up to date. Attempt to reprogram PCM. If the PCM cannot be programmed, replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  21. Using scan tool, select PROGRAM function.
  22. After download is complete, exit service programming function.
  23. Turn off-board programming adapter off.
