Test B: Keyless Entry System Inoperative

  1. If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check was not performed, see REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  2. Press each button on remote transmitter one at a time. If system does not operate normally, go to next step. If system operates normally, check for intermittent or poor connections. For aid in diagnosing intermittent problems. See PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS  under INTERMITTENTS.
  3. From inside of vehicle, operate power door lock system. If power door locks operate normally, go to next step. If power door locks do not operate normally, repair power locks by symptom. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & REAR HATCH RELEASE - AZTEK article.
  4. From inside of vehicle, operate lift glass release switch. If lift glass release operates normally, go to next step. If lift glass release does not operate normally, repair lift glass release by symptom. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & REAR HATCH RELEASE - AZTEK article.
  5. NOTE: Inspect keyless entry transmitter to ensure it is correct model for this vehicle. A wrong model transmitter may pass this test, but will not activate vehicle remote system.
  6. Turn on Keyless Entry Tester (J43241). Place transmitter on keyless entry tester pad. Press each remote transmitter button one at a time. If a tone does not sound or Green light does not illuminate after each button is pressed, go to next step. If a tone sounds and Green light illuminates after each button is pressed, go to step  23.
  7. If no buttons sound tone or illuminate Green light, go to next step. If any button sounds tone and illuminates Green light, replace remote transmitter. Go to step  9.
  8. Replace remote transmitter battery. See TRANSMITTER BATTERY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  9. Turn on Keyless Entry Tester (J43241). Place transmitter on keyless entry tester pad. Press each button of transmitter one at a time. If tone does not sound or Green light does not illuminate after each button is pressed, go to next step. If tone sounds and Green light illuminates after each button is pressed, go to step  11.
  10. Replace remote transmitter, and go to next step.
  11. Operate transmitter within range of vehicle. If all RKE functions do not operate normally, go to next step. If all RKE functions operate normally, go to step  24.
  12. Program new remote transmitter. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. If chime does not sound twice, go to next step. If chime sounds twice, go to step  24.
  13. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) module 6-pin harness connector. RCLDR module is located at center of instrument panel, under trim panel near defroster vent. Using a test light connected to ground, probe RCDLR module harness connector terminal No. 5 (Orange wire). See Fig 1. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  20.
  14. Connect test light between RCDLR module harness connector terminals No. 5 (Orange wire) and No. 8 (Black wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  20.
  15. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using DVOM measure voltage between BCM harness connector C1 terminal A10 and RCDLR module harness connector terminal No. 8 (Black wire). See Figure and Fig 1 . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step  16.
  16. Connect test light between BCM harness connector C1 terminal A10 (Light Green wire) and RCDLR module harness connector terminal No. 8 (Black wire). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If test light illuminates, go to step  21. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  17.
  17. Check for open, high resistance or short to ground in Light green wire between BCM harness connector C1 terminal A10 and DLC terminal No. 2. See DATA LINK CONNECTOR article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  24. If problem is found, go to step  18.
  18. Check for poor, loose or corroded in RCDLR module harness connector. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  24. If problem is found, go to step  22.
  19. Check for poor, loose or corroded in BCM harness connectors. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  24. If problem is found, go to step  23
  20. Repair open, high resistance or short to ground in Orange wire between Center Console (CC) fuse block harness connector C1 terminal No. 10 and RCDLR module harness connector terminal No. 5. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . After repairs are made, go to step  24.
  21. Repair open or high resistance in Black wire between ground and RCDLR module harness connector terminal No. 8. See Fig 1. Ground point is located under left side of instrument panel on cross beam between parking brake assembly and steering column. After repairs are made, go to step  24.
  22. Repair short to voltage in Light Green wire between BCM harness connector C1 terminal A10 and DLC terminal 2. See DATA LINK CONNECTORS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. After repairs are made, go to step  24.
  23. Replace RCDLR module. See REMOTE CONTROL DOOR LOCK RECEIVER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to step  24.
  24. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  25. Operate transmitter within range of vehicle. If all RKE functions operate normally, repairs are complete. If all RKE functions do not operate normally, go to step  3.
