Electronic Brake Control Module: Removal

  1. Clean area around oil fill cap before removing oil fill cap. Remove oil fill cap. Lift engine cover up at front and slide tab out of engine bracket. Replace oil fill cap.
  2. Remove electrical harness push-in connector from front end sheet metal diagonal brace. Remove bolt from front end sheet metal diagonal brace at inner fender. Remove bolts from front end sheet metal diagonal brace at radiator support. Remove front end sheet metal diagonal brace.
  3. Disconnect accelerator and cruise control cable from accelerator control cable bracket. From left strut tower, remove electrical connector from cruise control module. Remove cruise control module shock tower nuts. Disconnect cruise control module from left strut tower. It is not necessary to remove cable from module. Position module and cables aside.
  4. On 3.4L engine, loosen 2 intake air duct clamps from air cleaner assembly and throttle body. Disconnect Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector. Remove intake air duct/Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor from air cleaner assembly and throttle body. Loosen clamp on MAF sensor and separate intake air duct from MAF sensor.
  5. On 3.8L engine, disconnect IAT sensor electrical connector. Remove 3 bolts from inner fender brace and remove brace. Loosen clamp securing air intake duct to air cleaner housing. Carefully remove air intake duct from throttle body and air cleaner housing. Remove 2 screws from 2 air cleaner housing sections. Remove air cleaner housing cover assembly. Without disconnecting PCM connectors, remove PCM and harness from PCM housing. Carefully remove PCM housing by pulling housing from 2 rubber grommets in engine compartment. Inspect assembly for signs of damage and replace as necessary.
  6. CAUTION: DO NOT pry EBCM from BPMV apart using a tool. Be careful not to damage BPMV surface. Care must be taken not to damage solenoid valves when EBCM is removed from BPMV.
  7. On all engines, disengage red locking tab from connector lock tab. Push down lock tab and move sliding connector cover to open position. Disconnect EBCM harness connector. Remove any dirt/debris from assembly. Remove four EBCM to BPMV retainers. Separate EBCM from BPMV by gently pulling apart until separated.
