Anti-Lock Brake System Diagnostic System Check

- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located below steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Attempt to establish communications with 4-WAL 3 Sensor and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If communications with specified modules is successful, go to next step. If unable to establish communications with specified modules, go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Using scan tool, request DTCs from 4-WAL 3 Sensor and PCM. If DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If no DTCs are retrieved, repair by symptom. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK BRAKES article in BRAKES.
- If scan tool retrieves DTCs which begin with "U", see TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS. If scan tool retrieves other DTCs, go to next step.
- If scan tool retrieves DTCs P0500, P0502, P0503, P0562, P0563, P0601-P0607, P1381, P1621, P1627 or P1683, see appropriate SELF DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If scan tool displays other DTCs, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
