DTC P1566: Powertrain Control Module Detects High Engine Speed: Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Perform The CRUISE CONTROL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK . Once test has been performed, go to next step.
  2. Since most occurrences of DTC P1566 are caused when the engine speed exceeds the maximum allowed RPM, verify the conditions under which the DTC was set with the customer. If an engine RPM condition caused this DTC to set, go to next step. If not, see Diagnostic Aids .
  3. Explain system operation to the customer and clear this DTC.
