Vehicle Interface Unit: Installation

CAUTION:
Use correct fastener in correct location. Replacement fasteners must be correct part number for application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in service procedures. DO NOT use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage fastener. Use correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to part and systems.
CAUTION:
In order to avoid damage to circuit board, DO NOT over-tighten thumb screws. Using your fingers, apply only a light pressure.
- Record 10-digit STID number from label on VIU module. Position VIU to VIU/VCU bracket. Install OnStar® mounting bracket screws to VIU. Connect GPS antenna cable to VIU. Connect red 32-pin connector to VIU.
- Position VIU to inner wheel housing. Install OnStar® mounting bracket nuts to VIU/VCU bracket. Contact OnStar® Dealer Support line by pressing OnStar® button twice. 10-digit STID number recorded will be needed by OnStar® Dealer Support line.
- Record 11-Digit ESN number from label on new part. Install cellular coaxial cable to VCU pressing into place until fully seated. Install connector to VCU pressing into place until fully seated. Hand tighten screws to connector. Position VCU to top of VIU. Install retainer strap to VCU pressing into place until fully seated.
- Press and hold end call button, which is a black button with a white dot. OnStar status light will change from green to red to green. Contact OnStar Dealer support line by pressing blue OnStar button twice. ESN number will be needed by OnStar advisor. Close rear compartment.
