Test B: Keyless Entry System Inoperative
- If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform diagnostic system check before proceeding. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Press each button on remote transmitter. If system does not operate properly, go to next step. If system operates properly, inspect for intermittents. See TROUBLE SHOOTING .
- Using power door lock switch, lock and unlock doors. If power door locks operate properly, go to next step. If power door locks do not operate properly, repair power door locks as necessary. See POWER DOOR LOCKS - CAMARO & FIREBIRD article.
- Using rear compartment release switch, open rear compartment lid. If rear compartment release operates properly, go to next step. If rear compartment release does not operate properly, repair wiring as necessary. See POWER REAR COMPARTMENT & FUEL DOOR RELEASE SYSTEMS article.
- Turn Keyless Entry Tester (J43241) to ON position. Place remote transmitter on keyless entry tester pad. Press each button of remote transmitter one at a time. If a tone does not sound or Green light does not illuminate after each button is pressed, go to next step. If a tone sounds and Green light illuminates after each button is pressed, go to step 10 .
- If all buttons on remote transmitter sound tone or illuminate Green light on Keyless Entry Tester (J43241), go to next step. If any button sounds tone and illuminates Green light, go to step 9 .
- Replace remote transmitter battery. Resynchronize remote transmitter. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER SYNCHRONIZATION under PROGRAMMING. Go to next step.
- Turn Keyless Entry Tester (J43241) to ON position. Place remote transmitter on keyless entry tester pad. Press each button of remote transmitter one at a time. If a tone does not sound or Green light does not illuminate after each button is pressed, go to next step. If a tone sounds and Green light illuminates after each button is pressed, go to step 10 .
- Replace remote transmitter. Program remote transmitter. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING. Go to step 13 .
- Press PANIC button on remote transmitter. If PANIC functions operate properly, go to next step. If PANIC functions do not operate properly, got o step 13 .
- Synchronize remote transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER SYNCHRONIZATION under PROGRAMMING. If door locks cycle and parking light flash during procedure, go to next step. If door locks do not cycle and parking lights do not flash during procedure, go to step 13 .
- Using remote transmitter, operate system within range of vehicle. If any function of remote transmitter does not operate properly, go to next step. If all functions of remote transmitter operate properly, go to step 15 .
- Program all remote transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING. If door locks do not cycle during procedure, go to next step. If door locks cycle during procedure, go to step 15 .
- Replace Body Control Module (BCM). Program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. Go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating properly, repeat test beginning at step 2 .
NOTE:
Ensure remote transmitter to ensure it is correct model for this vehicle. A wrong model remote transmitter may pass this test, but will not activate vehicle remote system.
